1897 – Sumitomo Copper Rolling Works is opened

1932 – Sumitomo manufactures and sells carbide cutting tools under the brand name “IGETALLOY”

 

1977 – Sumitomo manufactures and sells PCBN tools under the brand name “SUMIBORON”

1979 – Sumiden Carbide America, Inc. is established in Mount Prospect, Illinois on August 1st, 1979

1986 – The official company name is changed to Sumitomo Electric Carbide, Inc.

1990 – Sumitomo Electric Carbide, Inc. opens the Detroit sales branch office in Michigan

1991 – Sumitomo Electric Carbide, Inc. opens the Cincinnati sales branch office in Ohio

1991 – Sumitomo Electric Carbide Manufacturing is established in Wisconsin

1997 – Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. celebrates its 100 year anniversary

2003 – Sumitomo Electric Hardmetal Crop. becomes independent from Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd.

2004 – Sumitomo Electric Carbide, Inc. celebrates its 25 year anniversary in the United States

2007 – Sumitomo Electric Carbide, Inc. acquires Master Tool, LLC located in Ohi0

2007 – Sumitomo Electric Carbide, Inc. opens the Huntsville sales branch in Alabama

2008 – Sumitomo Electric Hardmetal Mexico is established in Aquascalientes, Mexico

2012 – Sumicarbide Canada, Inc. is established in Mississauga, Ontario

2013 – Sumitomo Electric Carbide Manufacturing expands facility by 55,000 sq. ft.

2013 – Sumitomo Electric Carbide, Inc. opens Americas Tool Engineering Center (ATEC) in New Berlin, Wisconsin

2015 – Sumitomo Electric Carbide, Inc. opens Torrance Warehouse in California

2019 – Sumitomo Electric Carbide, Inc. celebrates its 40 year anniversary in the United States
