When drilling steel and cast iron, this drill achieves stable, high-efficiency machining through a cutting-edge geometry that significantly reduces machining load compared to conventional products while simultaneously enhancing resistance to chipping.</p>
<p>Superior Machining Stability: Leveraging the effects of a unique new thinning geometry known as &#8220;RP Thinning,&#8221; the drill improves chip evacuation to achieve a substantial reduction in machining load, thereby enabling stable machining even under high-efficiency conditions.</p>

<p>Sumitomo has developed and launched new coated carbide grades AC9115T and AC9125T. Each grade has excellent wear resistance and are optimal for turning titanium alloys, with AC9115T for general purpose machining and AC9125T for interrupted machining. Titanium alloy machining has long been subjected to short tool life due to adhesion caused by chemical reactions with the cutting tool, and wear during machining caused by low thermal conductivity.</p>
<p>Titanium alloys are widely used in the aircraft industry due to their light weight, high strength and excellent corrosion resistance. Their applications are also increasing in the medical industry due to its high biocompatibility. In recent years, these industries have been growing rapidly, leading to a yearly increase in the demand for tools able to machine titanium alloys.</p>
<p>Featuring our proprietary PVD Absotech® coating technology in AC9115T and AC9125T, as well as the industry’s first tungsten carbide (WC) based composition that suppresses chemical reactions with titanium alloys and significantly increases wear resistance. The results have shown up to 75% reduction in friction coefficient. This achieves long tool life in turning of titanium alloys, significantly contributing to improved productivity and reduced costs. PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) is a method of depositing a thin physical coating on the surface of the target material in the vapor phase.</p>

<p>Sumitomo has developed AC4125K to reduce machining costs by lowering overall tool usage and tool change frequency through stable and long tool life in cast iron applications. Many of these cast iron applications are featured in the automotive industry, among others. Gray cast iron is used for parts like engine blocks and brake discs where sliding is required, while ductile cast iron is used for parts such as differential cases and carrier cases where strength is required. Gray cast iron is an alloy primarily composed of carbon (C) and silicon (Si), with C content of 2.1% or more. Gray cast iron appears gray on the fracture surface because carbon is more present in the form of graphite than in the form of cementite. Ductile cast iron contains somewhat more carbon and silicon than gray iron, with the graphite becoming spherical due to the addition of magnesium and/or cerium.</p>
<p>AC4125K is Sumitomo’s 1st recommended grade for interrupted machining of cast iron. Through the use of AbsotechTM Coating, the proprietary CVD coating technology, to provide excellent chipping resistance by maximizing compressive stress to achieve stable and longer tool life for roughing of components such as differential cases and carrier cases. Also, the gold color inserts makes it easy to identify used corners, assisting in the improvement of tool management.</p>

<p>The MEFF Chipbreaker offers versatility in various applications in swiss machining<br />
including OD turning, back turning, chamfering, tapering, profiling, and more. While the MEFF Chipbreaker is ideal for small parts machining, it can also be used in similar fine finishing applications anywhere! The new chipbreaker features great chip control in very fine finishing, where depth of cut (ap) &lt; 0.020” and feed rate (fz) &lt; 0.002 inches per revolution (IPR). With a unique chipbreaker design with multiple ridges, a wavy cutting edge, and high rake the MEFF Chipbreaker allows for the excellent chip control, lower cutting force and good surface finish in different depth of cuts.</p>
<p>MEFF Chipbreaker is available in the following Sumitomo Grades, AC5015S (1st choice for HRSA, Ti Alloy, Hardened Steel and Bearing Steel), AC5025S (tough grade for interrupted cutting of HRSA) and AC1030U (1st choice for steel and stainless steel). Test results of the MEFF Chipbreaker have indicated improved wear resistance and surface finish in materials steel, stainless steel and inconel.
